Timetable for the visit of Solingen students to Chatham September/October 2003

Sunday
28th

German students and staff arrive at Ashford terminal at 13.41 to be picked up by their host families.

Monday
29th

German pupils and teachers meet the Headteacher in the Head´s office for a formal welcome. English pupils collect their partners at the end of registration and accompany them to the first two lessons. After period two the German group is taken on a scenic tour of Kent by minibus visiting the following places of interest: costal cliffs at Beachy Head, Hastings, Pevensey Castle, etc.

Tuesday
30th

First day trip to London departing from Chatham train station at 9.17 am. Visit to HMS Belfast is booked for 11.00. After that the following sights will be visited: City Hall, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Shakespeare´s Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, Millennium Bridge, St. Paul´s Cathedral, Covent Garden, China Town, Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Circus, St. James´s Park. (Please provide packed lunch!)

Wednesday
1st

Day trip to Dover by train. Dover Castle is 15 minutes on foot from the train station. Visit to the keep including the introductory video, hands on exhibition "a castle fit for king" and the "siege experience" audio-video tour. A guided tour of the Secret Wartime Tunnels is booked for 12.00. Estimated arrival time in Chatham is 17.06. (Please provide packed lunch!)

Thursday
2nd

The German group goes on a second day trip to London. The sightseeing programme includes Westminster Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Green Park, shopping on Oxford Street in small groups, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminter Abbey, a ride on the London Eye, Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, Royal Albert Memorial and a quick look at the breathtaking luxury inside Harrods in Knightsbridge. ETA in Chatham is 19.17. (Please provide packed lunch!)

Friday
3rd

Depart to Rochester at 09.30 by minibus. A visit to Rochester Castle is booked for 10.00 folowed by a guided tour of Rochester Cathedral. German students are then taken to Chatham Historical Dockyards by minibus. The Dockyard is now a freeflow: go where you like, when you like. Visits to the "wooden walls" exhibition, the submarine HMS Ocelot, the ropery and the lifeboat exhibition.

4th/5th

German students stay with host families.

Monday
6th

German students spend part of the morning with partners in school, then half-day visit to Canterbury including cathedral tour, King´s College, St. John´s hospital and some free time for shopping in small groups.

Tuesday
7th

German students spend morning in school followed by shopping in Chatham at lunch time. A Germany vs. England football match is scheduled for 14.00 .

Wednesday
8th

Another morning in school followed by a trip to Faversham including a guided tour of the Sheperd Neame Brewery. ETA at Chatham train station is 16.30. The farewell party is scheduled for 19.30 at Elliott´s.

Thursday
9th

Day trip to Windsor Castle by mini bus.

Friday
10th

German students depart for Solingen at 13.30 from Ashford International. Transport to Ashford by parental car and personal farewell at the station. Please note that at least half an hour may be needed for checking in.

Samstag
29.06.

Ankunft der englischen Gäste am Bahnhof Ohligs um ca. 17.00 Uhr. Abholung durch die deutschen Gastfamilien.

Sonntag
30.06.

Austauschpartner verbringen den Tag in den Gastfamilien.

Montag
01.07.

In der 1.Stunde Begrüßung durch die Schulleitung in der Lesestube. In der 2. - 4. Stunde nehmen die englischen Jungen am Unterricht ihrer Austauschpartner teil. Um 11.30 Abfahrt der englischen Jungen zur Rundfahrt durch das Bergische Land. Geplante Rückkehr gegen 18.00 Uhr an der Schule. (Bitte an ein Verpflegungspaket denken!)

Dienstag
02.07.

Abfahrt von Schule um 8.00 Uhr. Tagesprogramm: Besichtigung der Burg Eltz, Bootsfahrt auf der Mosel und Stadtrundgang in Cochem. Geplante Ankunft an der Schule ca 19.00 - 20.00. (Verpflegungspaket!)

03.07.

Schulwandertag: Die englischen Jungen nehmen am Programm ihrer Partner teil.

Donnerstag
04.07.

Die englischen Jungen nehmen in der l.-4.Std. am Unterricht ihrer Austauschpartner teil, anschließend Schwimmen in der Bergischen Sonne, Wuppertal. Geplante Rückkehr um ca 18.00. (Verpflegungspaket!)

Freitag
05.07.

Unterricht in der 1. und 2. Stunde; anschließend Betriebsbesichtigung bei Nippes & Partner.

Dann Fahrt nach Köln mit Dombesichtigung, Spaziergang am Rhein, Besuch des Schokoladenmuseums und abschließender Einkaufsbummel in der Innenstadt. (Verpflegungspaket)

In den Gastfamilien

Montag
08.07.

1. -2. Std. Unterricht. Anschließend Besuch in den Lebenshilfe Werkstätten für Behinderte. Abends Abschiedsparty am Heiler Kotten mit Grillbuffet und Musik.

Dienstag
09.07.

Vormittags Unterricht. Am Nachmittag das traditionelle Fußballspiel England gegen Deutschland in der großen Turnhalle.

10.07.

Abreise der englischen Reisegruppe ab Solingen HBF um 9.45 Uhr.
